Isshin Ryu Bushido Kai Karate
The are we study here at Bushido Ryu is Isshin Ryu Bushido Kai Karate. Isshin Ryu, translated meaning "one heart, one mind", was introduced in 1954 by Tatsuo Shimabuku. Sensei Shimabuku studied the Shorin Ryu, Gojo Ryu, and Aikido Systems. Then he studied the Sword, Bo staff, Sai, and Tonfa under Okinawa'a most noted instructors. Isshin Ryu is a combination of the best of these styles and weapons techniques and epitomizes the powerful, lightning fast techniques that enabled the weaponless Okinawan people to defend themselves. Isshin Ryu's main goal is to perfect ones technique through physical and mental development. As students learn, they acquire self confidence & humility. Isshin Ryu has many advantages over other styles as: -Isshin Syu techniques are mostly thrown from natural stances, limiting wasted motion, maintaining stability & giving you split second advantages over other styles. - Isshin Ryu stresses "close in" techniques that are more practical on the street vs. high flashy kicks, for example, instead of throwing a fury of punches and kicks, you throw few, fast striking attacks and finish quickly with a take down. - Isshin Ryu uses a "snap style" that permits you to move faster and think faster then your opponent and see an opening, and lead naturally into other techniques.
